Obituary


John D. (Jack) Armstrong, a long time resident of Milford, died peacefully on March 30, 2015 at

Crestview Care Center in Milford.



Jack was born to Clifford and Sarah Armstrong on April 17, 1924 in the small Nebraska town of

Garland. He graduated in 1942 from Garland High School. After graduation he coached the Garland High

basketball team for one year before being drafted into the Army during World War II. After the war was

over Jack continued to serve an additional thirty-five years in the National Guard Reserves, and...

Jack was born to Clifford and Sarah Armstrong on April 17, 1924 in the small Nebraska town of

Garland. He graduated in 1942 from Garland High School. After graduation he coached the Garland High

basketball team for one year before being drafted into the Army during World War II. After the war was

over Jack continued to serve an additional thirty-five years in the National Guard Reserves, and fifty

years in the American Legion.



Baseball was one of Jacks favorite sports. In High School he earned a reputation as one of the best

pitchers in the county. After he returned from the War he renewed his love for baseball by playing in

the "Town Team" League as a respected First Baseman.



On May 28, 1946 he was united in marriage to Hattie Walla. Jack was an automotive instructor

at Southeast Community College from 1954 to his retirement in 1989.



Jack will be remembered by many for his strong NFirst Sergeant" voice which could be heard

from a great distance. He had a passion for sports and his family. He had a passion for sports and his

family. Bowling, Pinochle, Volleyball, and his co-workers were of great importance to him. In his

retirement years he was well known for being the lawn mower and small engine "Fix-it-Man."



Left to treasure his memory are his children and their spouses, Jackie and TIm Collins of

Meadow Grove, David (Bud) and Veda Armstrong of Uncoln, Gary and Daria Armstrong of Milford, seven

grandchildren Greg, Cary, Jolene, J.D., Josalyn, Caleb, Ascha, thirteen great grandchildren; long time

family friend Jim Pfister, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife

Hattie, parents, and sisters.



In lieu off/owers, the family will send a memorial to the American Legion, Milford Chapter.
